Vacancy Description: Commis Chef
Start Date: June 2008 (can be permanent position)
Hourly Pay Rate/Salary: from £12,000 to £14,000 per year (gross) depending on experience
Working Hours: averaging 45 per week but fewer in Low Season and more in High Season, usually over 5 days per week, generally as required to ensure all work is completed and kitchen staffed.
Holidays: pro rata of at least 24 days per annum
Accommodation: provided as will live-in hotel
English Language Requirements: Czech Match Level 3-4 or better (CEF B2+)
5: totally fluent, both written and oral including reading, people can really think in the language
4: very good (also upper intermediate to some of you) generally almost fluent, speaks well, reads and writes very well, but probably still thinks in own language and then translates in head into English
3: reasonably okay, can speak, possibly write and certainly can read, good enough for the average citizen to understand and be understood
2: some use, can speak enough to get by and maybe can read some but probably cant write it
1: has a few phrases or can ask a few things, say please and thank you etc but possibly cant either read or write, probably a beginner or been on holiday in the past.

Normal duties will include preparing breakfasts and lunches for patrons, guests and where appropriate staff members, assisting the Head Chef at other times in accordance with his instructions and deputising for the Head Chef when he is off or on holiday. The Candidate will prepare the full range of items normally included in both a “Full British Breakfast” and “Continental Breakfast”, prepare the starters, salads, main courses and puddings included on the Lunch and Dinner Menus, including but not always, traditional British meals like Fish dishes, Roast Beef, Pork, Lamb, Steak and Kidney pies and in season, Salmon, Grouse, Venison, other Game etc. The Candidate will normally also assist the Head Chef in the preparation of dishes for the Dinner, and A La Carte menus and carry out other duties including kitchen preparation and cleaning at other times when it is quieter.
The hotel is located near Struan which is a popular holiday destination on the Isle of Skye. The town of Portree is connected to Glasgow by bus and road links. However the train from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh stops on the mainland and from Kyle you would need to take a bus or taxi to Struan.
