Help British Heart Foundation Scotland beat heart disease, your way.
Volunteering with the nation’s heart charity is so much more than a just good feeling! Giving a hand for just two hours a week can also do wonders for your sense of wellbeing!
Volunteers report that they experience something that’s become known as the 'helpers high', which is a rush of euphoria like the one that we get after we've done physical activity.
Once the initial rush is over, we are left with a lasting sense of peace and calm that can return hours or even days later when we think about what we’ve done. One piece of research showed that regular volunteering is the happiness equivalent of getting a university degree, or more than doubling your income.
It seems that volunteering gives you a sense of purpose and a feeling of being needed that’s better than any pay packet!
So if you want to be a part of something great, don’t wait! Together we can beat heart disease.
We can help you:
* learn or develop your skills
* make new friends in your area
* get valuable work experience
* put your existing experience to good use.
You only have to give the time you can afford and there are so many ways to support us!
Help at a BHF fundraising event
Help other BHF volunteers in your community
Fundraise with family, friends or colleagues
Place collection boxes locally
Promote Heart Matters, our free info service
Visit local schools as a Schools Co-ordinator to promote BHF fundraising activities such as Jump Rope For Heart and Ultimate Dodgeball and telling children about the work of the charity and heart health
Visit local funeral directors as an in-memorium representative distributing BHF literature thereby ensuring the funeral director will suggest the BHF for donations in lieu of flowers when appropriate
Give short talks as a Speaker either at cheque presentations or to local groups who may be interested in fundraising for the charity– (a great opportunity for those with or who want to gain experience in public speaking)
Volunteer in a BHF shop
Training and resources are available for all the above roles. You may have other ideas on how you can help, or special skills to share. We are extremely keen to talk to you about any of these and our other ways to get involved...
